The IEEE Entrepreneurship Africa Workshop was conducted by IEEE Entrepreneurship and co-sponsored with the IEEE Africa Council and IEEE Kenya Section in April 2024.

The selected participants first met during two virtual meet-ups beforehand to solicit ideas and form teams of approximately five people each. The online sessions helped the participants form teams before gathering in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the five-day workshop, 21 – 25 April, through group exercises, participants learned and practiced the vital aspects of starting a business based on innovation and interacted with the speakers, mentors, and entrepreneurs who provided valuable inputs to each group.

Topics covered included the UN-Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), taking an idea to market, creating a lean business model canvas, traditional and digital marketing, value proposition, finances, intellectual property, contracts and negotiation, leadership soft skills, and more. Guest speakers included experts on local investment opportunities, local entrepreneurial success stories, and more. Participants received mentoring from a team of experienced inventors and entrepreneurs.

The teams then completed their business plans and submitted their final business pitch videos on 06 May for evaluation by a panel of judges.
