International Conference on Environmental Engineering

2018 IEEE International Conference on Environmental Engineering. March 12-14, 2018. Milan, Italy

This event is an IEEE N3XT® Affiliate Event, and will include a session that focuses on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in science and engineering as it relates to the topic of the conference on the whole.

The IEEE International Environmental Engineering Conference is the flagship conference of the IEEE Environmental Engineering Initiative (IEEE EEI), a multi-disciplinary collaboration across the whole IEEE directed to foster knowledge dissemination and innovation in environmental engineering and to promote a sustainable future for the environment.

An innovative low-cost approach to emissions monitoring: a startup experience.

Yotam Ariel, IEEE N3XT® Star at Hello Tomorrow 2017, will be providing a recorded talk for the event on March 13. His Silicon Valley based tech startup – Bluefield – has developed a spectrally filtered optical remote sensor that’s being mounted on backpack size satellites to monitor methane emitters around the world. This approach is bringing the cost of monitoring from thousands of Euros per measurement down to cents. A case in point on how engineering makes a business model feasible and large scale environmental impact achievable.

This conference and the initiative are uniquely complementing the technical activities and the events of the IEEE units participating to EEI, by offering the opportunity of a multi-disciplinary forum to exchange knowledge and innovative ideas across the entire IEEE technical field. This event will allow for presenting a comprehensive showcase of expertise and experiences in the IEEE field to the scientific and professional communities in other technical areas of environmental engineering (such as civil engineering, environmental sciences, earth/soil science, hydraulic engineering, chemical engineering, physics, biology, ecology, climate science, management, economics, social sciences, and more), thus opening opportunities for bigger and broader understanding and cooperation. This event will also allow government employees decision makers to understand better the opportunities offered by technology for data-driven decision processes.

The IEEE International Environmental Engineering Conference will focus on technologies, methodologies, systems, and applications for environmental engineering, specifically for modeling, monitoring, and control of natural and artificial environments to ensure livability and a sustainable future of the environments as well as well-being of individuals and the community.
