Entrepreneurial Program

Entrepreneurship in Quantum Computing from Academic Perspective
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

In this session, speakers will review experiences and best practices on how universities support their emerging QC entrepreneurs through startup accelerators, tackling topics such as how Intellectual Property, seed funding and share is managed. The session consists of individual presentations of each panelist, followed by a Q&A panel.

Speakers

Moderator

Andy Chen, Founding General Partner, REDDS Capital, will act as the Event Host for the entire workshop.

IEEE Entrepreneurship Program Overview
1:00 PM – 1:15 PM

In this session, 2020 IEEE Entrepreneurship Chair, Ken Stauffer will provide a summary of the many reasons to become part of the IEEE Entrepreneurship Community.  Participants will learn about how we service the engineering startup community with mentorship, entrepreneurial workshops, pitch competitions, and much more.

Speakers

Entrepreneurship in Quantum Computing
1:15 PM – 2:00 PM

In this session, presenters will discuss the factors that cause startups/products to fail in the quantum space with a specific focus on technical challenges, best practices, and possibilities for improvement. We will hear case studies into the various phases of innovation and product development and learn about the circumstances that contribute to the high and lows of entrepreneurship in quantum computing.

Tools for QC entrepreneurship, with AWS | Amazon Web Services (AWS) Session
3:15 PM – 4:45 PM

While the science of quantum computing is still emerging and evolving rapidly, there is a growing opportunity for commercial innovation. In addition to building quantum computing hardware, a growing startup ecosystem is building the software, tooling, algorithms, and expertise necessary for enterprises and researchers to get more out of NISQ-era technology.

The general availability of the AWS Cloud quantum computing service Amazon Braket is enabling startups to build with technology-agnostic development environments, on-demand access to simulators, and multiple types of quantum computers. From the same console, developers can also use AWS classical computing resources, machine learning, storage, and other security and management services.

This session has two components: A briefing on Amazon Braket, and a panel of quantum computing entrepreneurs sharing how they are building their quantum businesses.

The Amazon Braket Briefing | Amazon Web Services (AWS) Session One

The Amazon Braket briefing will focus on how the recently launched service can help lower the barriers to entry for quantum startups, entrepreneurial enterprises, and academia. The talk will explain Braket’s open-source SDK and managed notebooks, and show how you use them to access systems from D-Wave, IonQ, and Rigetti, as well as different types of circuit simulators.

Quantum Computing Entrepreneurs – Building/Growing Businesses | Amazon Web Services (AWS) Session Two

The panel discussion features a variety of quantum computing entrepreneurs. They will share their perspectives on how they are growing their businesses in quantum computing, the tools they use, and learnings from their experiences so far.
