Policy Panel: Lessons from Uber, Lyft and HomeAway

Special thanks to the IEEE-USA for their leadership in the field of Tech Policy and support for IEEE Entrepreneurship Activity.

Entrepreneurs: Pay attention to policy!ieee_usa_400x300

It can help or hurt your ability to succeed!  What do you need to do to make sure that the rules and regulations end up supporting your business rather than ending your business?  You need to educate the policy makers and the public in general.

Uber and Lyft, for example, created a great way to extend the opportunity for ride sharing. Their app boomed! Traditional transportation companies were threatened, and fought using tech policy to protect their businesses.  In Austin this resulted in an election and ultimately the loss of Uber and Lyft’s services.

In this discussion, we’ll show you ways in which you can craft your message to the public and to policy makers so that they can see your products and services as a benefit to society rather than as a threat to entrenched markets.

You’ll want to take notes!
