Biography

Mario Aleman is a Senior Member from the IEEE Nicaragua Section and committee member of the IEEE MGA Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC). He has supported the creation of the first SIGHT groups in Region 9.

In addition, he has professional experience and research in the field of solar technology, energy efficiency, and community development. Currently, he is the founder and president of “Ciencia y Desarrollo Nicaragua”, a non-profit social organization dedicated to the promotion of science and development in underserved communities. Mario is a Local Networks Liaison on the 2020 IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee.

As a young social entrepreneur, Mario has been the recipient of the following awards: 2015 IEEE MGA Leadership Award, 2014 IEEE R9 Theodore Hissey Outstanding Young Professional Award, 2012 Ashoka’s Changemaker Award, 2008 IbVogt Scholar of the Year, 2008 Outstanding Social Entrepreneur from the International Youth Foundation, 2006 ERA (1st. Place on Renewable Energy Projects) European Union, 2006 TIC Americas Winner – Young Americas Business Trust YBT.
