Ashar Baig
Biography
Ashar Baig (pronounced Usher Bég) is Director, Technology Planning and Strategy at Huawei Technologies. His role encompasses technology planning, partnerships, and product / technology strategy with a 3 – 5 year time horizon focused Cloud, Big Data Analytics, IoT, Telecom, and Data Storage technologies.
Ashar possesses over 20 years of high-tech industry as an author, advisor, a thought leader and an analyst. He has held senior roles at North America’s leading companies such as Gigaom Research, Analyst, Taneja Group (Advisory and Industry Analyst), Asigra (BCDR), Artisan Infrastructure (IaaS), Camouflage Software (Data security), IBM (HPC & Grid Computing), TELUS (RBOC), HP (Mobile Messaging), Siemens (CRM), and Intel (Networking & Communication).
Ashar is passionate about driving industry standards and evangelizing them. Until recently, he was the Chairman of the Special Interest Group (SIG) focused on Cloud Backup, Recovery, and Restore (BURR) within Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) of Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). He is also referred to as “Mr. Data Protection” due to his passionate evangelism and educational speaking engagements of data protection topics at various industry events. He volunteers for SNIA’s Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI), Analytics and Big Data Committee (ABDC) and Data Protection and Capacity Optimization (DPCO) committee. Previously, Ashar has held senior positions within EC2 & ECTF.
Ashar is the founder and manager of LinkedIn Cloud Backup group. He writes for Gigaom, Talkin Cloud, Sand Hill Publications (Cyber Trends Magazine), Tech Target, Data Protection Journal and actively blogs on LinkedIn Cloud Backup group page as well as on the Analyst Connection web site.
Ashar was a speaker at IEEE N3XT® 2016 Toronto.
