Biography

Glenn Zorpette is executive editor of IEEE Spectrum Magazine. Under his supervision, since 2002, IEEE Spectrum has won 115 significant journalism awards. These included, in 2012, a National Magazine Award for General Excellence, the most prestigious award in U.S. magazine publishing. In addition, in 1993 he won a National Magazine Award for Reporting for an article on Iraq’s attempt, before the first Gulf war, to build an atomic bomb. He has also been a staff editor and writer at Scientific American and Red Herring magazines, and his work has been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, American Heritage of Science and Technology, and other publications.

He has also reported and recorded radio segments for the National Public Radio network in the USA, including “Weekend Edition,” “Here and Now,” and “Living On Earth.” He appears in the 2012 motion picture documentary “The Singularity,” directed and produced by Doug Wolens, and in the 2019 documentary “Hi A.I.,” directed by Isa Willinger and produced by Kloos & Co. Medien GmbH. Glenn holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Brown University and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
