Biography

Dr. Ishkandar Baharin has strong experience in robotics, which began with his Ph.D. research in the UK in the late 80s, after spending almost 11 years in the British education system. He came back to Malaysia and spent about 4 years in a local university, after which he got his Associate Professorship and several National Awards for his pioneering work in Robotics. He then pursued his career with an international electronics company based in the USA, building a robotics automation line for the global company, which was successfully commissioned for global production.

After gaining experience in robotics and computer-integrated manufacturing systems in the mid-90s, he ventured into the world of venture capitalism to expose himself to global financial and technological markets. He then became the CEO of an eCommerce company that linked trade between 54 OIC member countries under Islamic Development Bank venture funding.

In early 2000, he came back to Malaysia to be part of a team that founded a new private University under MARA, where he served for almost 10 years. He later retired and established his own robotics companies with the intent of building robotics for Malaysia. In 2014, he was the founding member of the Malaysia Robotics and Automation Society, where he is the acting president. He is currently the executive chairman of several robotics companies and is focusing on building robotics collaboration models between Malaysia and other developed worlds in robotics.

Ishkandar Baharin is the 2023-2024 Southeast Asia Region Team Lead on the 2024 IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee.
