Biography

Rajnish Gupta, obtained a B.E (Hons) degree in electrical engineering from India and, M.Sc. (Electrical Engineering – Power System Reliability) and Ph.D. (Power System Reliability) degrees from Canada.

Dr Gupta joined Singapore Polytechnic in 1996 as lecturer in the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (SEEE), became Deputy Director of SEEE in 2010, followed by Director of the Department of Industry Services, Singapore Polytechnic (2014 – 2017), Director of Department for Technology, Innovation & Enterprise at Singapore Polytechnic (2016 – 2018). Recently, Dr Gupta joined SP Group as Deputy Principal of the Singapore Institute of Power & Gas, SP Group.

Dr Gupta served as a member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Power & Engineering Society Chapter, Singapore in various capacities such as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair, Chair and Past Chair/Advisor between 1996 and 2007.

In 2007, he joined the IEEE Singapore Section as Secretary (2007/2008) and later served as treasurer (2009/2010), Vice-Chair (2011/2012), Chair (2013/2014) and Past Chair/Advisor (2015/2016). He was also a Steering Committee Member of the IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT), USA between 2015 and 2016.

Since 2015, Dr Gupta is serving the IEEE-Asia Pacific as the Executive Committee Member and Chair of IEEE-Asia Pacific Humanitarian Technology Activities Sub-committee (2015/2016) and Chair of IEEE-Asia Pacific Strategic Planning Sub-committee (2017/2018).

Dr Gupta held various positions in organising the international conferences such as the IEEE PES Power Conference (Local Arrangement Chair), International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems (Logistics Chair), IEEE Conference on Technology and Society in Asia (Singapore Rep) in 2015, 2016 TENCON (Co-chair), and 2016 All IEEE Young Engineers’ Humanitarian Challenge (Chair), etc.

Dr Gupta received the Teaching Excellence Award at Singapore Polytechnic in 2002, Commendation letters for teaching from 2003 to 2012, the Outstanding Power Engineer of the Year Award from IEEE Power Engineering Chapter, Singapore in 2006 and Singapore National Day Commendation Medal from the President of Singapore in 2007. Dr Gupta received a special award from the Director of IEEE-Asia-Pacific for being the most hardworking volunteer in the 2015. In 2017, he received the R10 (Asia-Pacific) Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award from the IEEE R10.
