Ray Liu | Origin Wireless & Linksys

2019 IEEE Board of Directors Member, 2019 Vice President of IEEE Technical Activities, and 2019 IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee member Dr. Ray Liu was the recipient of a Startup Award at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). CES is an event owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), has long attracted world business leaders and pioneering thinkers as well as serving as a proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years.

This year Origin Wireless, the leader in Wireless AI sensing technology, to showcase new healthcare and security enhancements through in-car motion recognition, breathing and sleep tracking, and fall detection software led by IEEE Volunteer Ray Liu, and Linksys attended the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Origin Wireless achieved all the key milestones as a high-tech startup and is now actively transitioning to a growth-stage business. The company has validated its business model through the successful launch of its first commercial product with Linksys™ and solidified partnerships with several key strategic industry leaders while continuing to build out its robust IP portfolio. Linksys Aware™, the WiFi motion-sensing service launched in October, is recognized in the prestigious CES 2020 Innovation Awards, being selected as an Innovation Awards Honoree.

Now, with the newly secured financial resources, Origin Wireless is in a great position to move forward with commercializing its WiFi Sensing™ product platforms: Origin Home™, Origin Health™, and Origin Tracking™.

“2019 was a tremendous year for Origin Wireless. Our successful launch with Linksys validates our idea that when you combine wireless with AI, new disruptive Smart Home applications are possible with just a software upgrade,” said Dr. Ray Liu, Founder, and CEO of Origin Wireless. “With the successful close of our B1 round financing, we are in a strong position to continue on the growth trajectory in 2020 where we plan to commercialize Origin Health and Origin Tracking with strategic industry leaders.”

What’s next for Origin Wireless?

Coming in the first half of 2020, Origin Wireless plans to launch Origin Health™. The new platform provides the capability to remotely monitor the well-being of the growing aging-in-place population, which includes 24/7 monitoring of daily activity monitoring, sleep monitoring, and fall detection, all without any wearables or cameras.

“We are proud to partner with Linksys to enable the first-ever launch of home monitoring service on mesh WiFi routers with a simple over-the-air software update,” said Dr. Ray Liu, Founder, and CEO of Origin Wireless. “Our company’s mission is to innovate with smart wirelessAI™ engines to enable our partners to deliver richer and broader Smart Home and Smart Health experiences to consumers … this is an achievement towards that goal.”

“Motion-sensing in Mesh WiFi has incredible potential to change the way the general public taps into the capabilities of their routers,” said Matthew Keasler, Linksys Aware Product Manager. “No longer will the router just be a device that enables Internet access in a home, it will be the cog that drives the smart home. Since Linksys is first-to-market, we anticipate playing a large role in that revolution.”
